Scholarship Information
- Scholarship Applications are due by September 6, 2013. All recipients will be notified by September 20, 2013.
The scholarship will cover the registration fee of $60 (student) or $75 (professional) for the state workshop.
This would also be a great resume addition if awarded the scholarship!

Scholarships Available
- ORSA State Workshop Professional Scholarship – Scholarships will be provided for the ORSA workshop for registrations fees. This scholarship is open to all professional staff members at Ohio Institution (or ORSA member institutions). Each scholarship covers one conference registration at the Early Bird rate.
- ORSA State Workshop NEW Professional Scholarship – Scholarships will be provided for the ORSA workshop for registrations fees. This scholarship is open to all professional staff members at Ohio Institution (or ORSA member institutions) that are first time Workshop attendees. Each scholarship covers one conference registration at the Early Bird rate.
- ORSA Will M. Holsberry State Workshop Student Scholarship – Scholarships will be provided for the ORSA workshop for registration fees. This scholarship is open to all students at Ohio Institutions (or ORSA member institutions). Each scholarship covers one conference registration at the Early Bird rate.
- ORSA Extramural Student Scholarship – Scholarship will be provided to the ORSA state Workshop to a first time ORSA attended that meets the following requirements: Student must have played a significant role at an extramural event in the state of Ohio during the past academic year. This would include tournament interns, host committee members, all-tournament committee members, officials’ committee members, and the officials. This scholarship is sponsored by the University of Dayton. Each scholarship covers one conference registration at the Early Bird rate.
Eligibility
- For student scholarships, the student must be enrolled as an undergraduate/graduate/intern/field experience student at an Ohio institution during the current academic year; currently employed in a recreational services capacity or closely related field; and in good academic standing with their institution.
- For the extramural scholarship, the student must enrolled as an undergraduate/graduate/intern/field experience student at an Ohio institution during the current academic year; currently employed in a recreational services capacity or closely related field; in good academic standing with their institution; and participated in a significant role at an extramural event at an Ohio institution during the past academic year (i.e. tournament intern, host committee member, all-tournament committee member, officials’ committee member, etc).
- For the professional scholarship, the professional must be working as a full time professional in the field of recreational services at an Ohio institution.
- For the new professional scholarship, the professional must be working as a full time professional in the field of recreational services at an Ohio institution and attending the ORSA state workshop for the first time as a professional.
Selection Information
Candidates meeting all eligibility requirements will be rated equally on contributions to recreational sports at the university/community, state, regional and/or national level, and leadership and involvement in ORSA, NIRSA and other related organizations. The selection committee will consist of the ORSA Scholarship Committee.
Recipient Obligations
- Recipients must use their award to attend the approved conference/workshop during the academic year the scholarship was awarded. Awards not used during this time frame will be forfeited.
- If unable to attend their awarded conference, recipients must notify the ORSA Scholarship Chair in writing no later than thirty days in advance of the event.
- Recipients are expected to attend any ORSA state meetings associated with the event and are encouraged to serve as volunteers while attending the event (e.g., work registration tables or career opportunities center, serve as session monitor, etc.).
- Recipients of the ORSA Will M. Holsberry Scholarship or ORSA Professional Scholarships should state that they are a “Holsberry Scholarship Recipient” or “Professional Scholarship Recipient” on their ORSA Workshop registration form. If the registration fee has already been paid award winners will be reimbursed their registration fee after providing the ORSA Treasurer with the necessary receipt.
- All scholarship winners, with the exception of Will M. Holsberry Scholarship and Professional Scholarship recipients, are required to initially pay for their conference. Registration fees will be reimbursed after the necessary receipt has been submitted to the ORSA Treasurer.
- Registration fees are not to exceed the dollar amount of the award.
